Mike Errico, “Count to Ten”

Lilting and lovely…You’ll wanna go there, we promise. – Guitar World I pass in too little time Too fast you slip from my mind I cast you here and I see you shine Over and over again Over and over I count to ten Blink and I see you then Hiding like spies among desperate lives Til we meet again Lightning in luminous beams Lost kings and exiled queens Waiting in the garden of only a dream I want you I need you I miss you “Count To Ten” written by Mike Errico, Angie Pollock (Sky Blue Coupe De Ville Music, ASCAP/ Angie Pollock) Mike Errico: Vocals, guitars, percussion Matt Beck: Guitars Ethan Eubanks: Drums Jeff Hill: Bass Angie Pollock: Backing vocals Andrew Sherman: String arrangements Rob Moose (violin), Hiroki Taguchi (viola), Garo Yellin (cello) Cover art by Angela Errico “I wanted it to feel like you’ve walked into a fantastical place that you can’t quite pin down.” (Interview, originally published in Guitar World): The “Count to Ten” video feels like you’re walking in a dream. How was that vibe created? Thanks. The minute the song was done, I noticed that it had something special, so doing a video was a natural next step. I shot the footage using the 8mm app on my iPhone. I’ve done that once before, for an acoustic guitar version of Tom Waits’ “Johnsburg, Illinois,” which is the same record, Wander Away, and I just really love the mood those old timey filters provide. The whole record has that lush, otherworldly vibe, to me. Where did you shoot? Well, that’s kinda funny, because we...
New, Deluxe Editions of the Mike Errico Catalog. Pay What You Want.

New, Deluxe Editions of the Mike Errico Catalog. Pay What You Want.

Hey everyone, I’ve just completed a semester teaching songwriting at Yale University, and thanks in part to the conversations I had with guest speakers Amanda Palmer, Ryan Miller and Jonathan Coulton, I’ve decided to try an experiment: you can pay what you want for new, deluxe editions of my recordings. IT’S ALL HERE: http://mikeerrico.bandcamp.com/ Q: Why? Also, are you crazy? No. It’s because I want you to have it for the amount you think it’s worth. For instance, the other day I put $2 in an open banjo case after listening to a bluegrass duo; gave a dollar to a mariachi band that wandered into my subway car; and purchased the new Queens of the Stone Age album on iTunes. I didn’t have to (it’s not like the mariachi band would have stopped playing), but somewhere in my reptilian brain I have made calculations that music has value. I bet you have, too, but if you feel that it should be free, I don’t want that to stop you from listening. I’m aware that, to some, this puts me in a certain camp, and I don’t like being in any camp. My work is still available at all fine digital retailers and you can buy it there, too. And as I said, this is an experiment. If it doesn’t go well, we’ll just tweak the experiment. Q: What are other people doing? You’d be amazed. It varies, of course, but overall, you’ve decided the music is worth MORE than the standard “iTunes price” — in some cases, by a lot. To me, it means that you understand what is...

“1000 Miles” Cowriter Ben Mink Produces Heart’s Latest, “Fanatic”

Cheers to “1000 Miles” cowriter Ben Mink, who’s produced Heart’s latest, “Fanatic.” He’s an amazing musician and arranger, and a great guy. Shout outs in Playback magazine range from Pearl Jam to Carrie Underwood to Elton John to Fergie, and the band occupies a unique space in rock history. “More than 35 years after releasing their debut album and going on to conquer the charts and earn the love of millions of fans around the world, Heart’s Ann and Nancy Wilson continue to thrive. In a year in which they are releasing a book, a box set and a new album, they’re still giving music their all.” – ASCAP Playback Click for the full article: “1000 Miles” and “1000 Miles (Extended Version)” from “Wander Away” are available at Bandcamp or iTunes.
